Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and pop star, Christina Aguilera, star of the new hit movie Burlesque, filed for divorce from music executive husband, Jordan Bratman.

“Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me,” Christina stated in an exclusive interview with People magazine, “I knew I had to end it.”  Christina also added, “I really didn’t want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up.”

The decision to end her five-year marriage was not easy for Christina but she felt strongly that a divorce would be best for her 2 ½-year-old son, Jordan.  “When you’re unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer,” explained Christina.  “That’s the last thing I wanted for my son.”

The tumultuous relationship of Christina’s own parents, which ended in divorce when she was 7, also influenced her decision to divorce Bratman.

Despite her divorce, Aguilera now has her eyes set on a new man, Burlesque set assistant Matthew Rutler.  Sources claim that the two have been out in both Los Angeles and New York City, and Christina told People, “He’s the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight.”
